In Moldovan schools, technological education courses (like Home Economics, is it even called that anymore?) are separately taught for boys and girls. While boys are learning how to pound a nail into wood and how to dig up all the weeds on the school grounds, girls are learning how to make these little gems. V, the tech teacher, took a special class on how to make these rugs a few years ago, and ever since, her girls have been making them in her classes. Sometimes I hesitate to give compliments and express interests because when I do that in Moldova, I hardly ever walk away empty-handed. I really tried to refuse, but I did end up walking away with two little rugs, my favorite and her favorite.
